Direct Deposit

Direct Deposit offers the convenience of having your payroll check automatically deposited into your Patelco checking or savings account, often hours earlier than you would receive a physical check.

To set up direct deposit, complete the authorization form1 and submit it to your employer. View the instructions below for the proper way to fill out your account number.

Account Format Instructions for Electronic Transactions

Follow the instructions below to ensure that electronic transactions made directly into your account, such as tax refunds, direct deposits, wires, and automatic payments/transfers, post properly.

Checking Accounts, Money Market Accounts and Health Savings Accounts (HSA)

The proper account number format is 14 digits long, beginning with 746 and including as many zeros as necessary to make up 14 digits. Your account number can be found at the bottom of your check.

  • 746 + prefilled by zeros + account number + suffix
  • Example 1: For checking account 12345-10, the correct format is 74600001234510 (746 + 0000 + 12345 + 10)
  • Example 2: For checking account 123456-12, the proper format is 74600012345612 (746 + 000 + 123456 + 12)
  • Example 3: For money market account 123456 suffix 15, the proper format is 74600012345615 (746 + 000 + 123456 + 15)

Savings and Holiday Accounts

The proper account number format includes only the account number and suffix, which must be separated by a dash.

Convenient automatic transfer options for all of your accounts.

Automatic transfers, also known as automated clearing house (ACH) transfers, give you an easy way to move money between your Patelco account and accounts at other financial institutions.

You can use these transfers to make payments to your gym or utility accounts, or to transfer money into your Patelco account to make loan payments or open other accounts.

To set up an automatic transfer, complete the proper form1 (incoming or outgoing), sign it, and submit it to Patelco. If you have any questions about ACH Transfers, please visit a local branch or call 800.358.8228.

Payroll Disbursement

You have the option of dividing your paycheck (when using direct deposit) among your various Patelco accounts. To allocate payroll disbursements to any of your accounts, complete the disbursement form 1 and return it to Patelco.

Have several accounts that you'd like your paycheck to go into? This is the way to do it. Fill out the form and indicate which accounts you'd like your paycheck to be distributed to.

Overdraft Protection

Having Overdraft Protection provides a safety net against overdrawing your checking account. It offers you:

  • Peace-of-mind knowing that your checks, bill payments and automatic payments, and debit card purchases are covered if you're a little short between paychecks
  • Easy enrollment online, over the phone or at your local branch
  • Protection from expensive overdraft fees
  • Flexibility to choose up to six different eligible overdraft protection accounts so that you know you're always covered

How it Works

  • Just link your eligible savings, line of credit, or credit cards accounts to your checking account.
  • If you don't have enough funds in your checking account to cover a check, bill payment, automatic payment or debit card purchase, we'll automatically transfer money from your overdraft account(s) to cover it.


  • Please remember that to cover your debit card purchases, you have to opt-in to our Debit Card Paid NSF program. See page 19 of your Member Handbook for additional information.
