What is Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android Apps?

Anywhere Deposit is an innovative service that allows you to deposit checks directly into your account(s) using the Patelco mobile app on your smartphone. Refer to our FAQs below for guidelines on how to set up and use Anywhere Deposit for our mobile apps.

What are Patelco’s eligibility requirements for using Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android?

There are currently four basic qualifications to use Anywhere Deposit. To use the service, you must:

  • Meet credit requirements
  • Have been a member for more than 30 days if you opened your membership online or over the telephone.
  • Have an iPhone or Android device
  • Be registered for Online Banking

What do I need to use Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android?

To use Anywhere Deposit, you need:

  • Apple iOS, version 4.2 or later for Apple devices
  • Android OS, version 2.3 or later for Android devices
  • The Patelco mobile app from either the Apple Store or Google Play
  • To be a registered Online Banking user (To register, visit https://banking.patelco.org/Account/Register)

What steps are involved in using Anywhere for iPhone and Android?

To use Anywhere Deposit, log in to the Patelco Mobile Banking app using your Online Banking User ID and Password on your device and:

  1. Log in to the Patelco Mobile Banking app.
  2. Select “Mobile Deposit”, then select "Make a Mobile Deposit.
  3. Select the account to receive the deposit.
  4. Enter the dollar amount of the check, then sign the back of the check.
  5. Select “Take Picture” and take photos of both the front and back of the signed check with your phone’s camera.
  6. Once the photos are taken and appear on the screen, verify that they are easy to read. If they are not, select “Clear Form” and start over.
  7. Select “Make Deposit.” The transaction will be processed as if you had made the deposit in person. Deposits after 6 p.m. Pacific time will be processed the following business day. Select “Make Deposit”. The transaction will be processed as if you had made the deposit in person. Deposits after 6 p.m. Pacific time will be processed the following business day.
  8. Repeat this process for any additional deposit items

Tip: Place the check on a dark, flat surface free of other paper, and be sure the check is completely inside the box on your phone’s screen. Keep the original check for 90 days as proof of your transaction.

Is Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android secure?

Yes, Mobile Banking and Anywhere Deposit is a secure encrypted environment, and all transactions and inquiries made are safe once you log in with your unique User ID and password.

Why is Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android not approved on my account?

Anywhere Deposit may not be available for your account if:

  • You opened your membership online or over the phone and have not been a member for more than 30 days
  • You are not eligible for a checking account
  • You are not registered for Online Banking
  • Deposit restrictions exist on your account
  • Current or previous collections exist on your account
  • You are not a member in good standing.

What can I deposit using Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android?

You can use Anywhere Deposit to deposit original paper checks payable to:

  • You (the payee)
  • Cash (the payee)
  • Patelco Credit Union

What Items are ineligible for deposit through Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android?

The following items cannot be deposited using Anywhere Deposit:

  • Foreign currency
  • Cash (bills)
  • Savings bonds
  • Checks payable to a third party
  • Substitute checks (i.e., checks created from an electronic image)
  • Checks that are irregular in any way (e.g., checks with mismatched numeric and written amounts)
  • Checks that have previously been returned unpaid for any reason
  • Checks that are “stale dated” (older than 6 months)
  • Checks drawn on a foreign Credit Union or payable in a foreign currency
  • Please note: Money orders, gift checks and non-standard size government checks are harder to read for Anywhere Deposit and my need to be deposited via traditional means.

How can I verify that my check was deposited successfully?

After selecting the "Make Deposit" button to complete your deposit, the transaction will process. When it is complete, you will either see an error message stating the reason or you will see a confirmation screen. The confirmation screen will say "Deposit Successful" and will show the date, amount, account, and a receipt number for tracking. When you are finished reviewing the deposit, select "Done" at the bottom of the confirmation screen to continue with your mobile banking session.

Why was my check not accepted?

If your check isn’t scanned correctly, your check could be rejected for the following reasons:

  • The MICR line may not be clear and within the viewer guides
  • The check amount, number, and date could not be read.
  • The front signature was not detected or is missing
  • The account number, routing number or other check data could not be read
  • The routing number is invalid 
  • The check was not endorsed

How can I ensure my check image is readable during the deposit process?

To make sure your check details are read:

  • Place the check on a dark, flat surface free of other documents or paperwork
  • Ensure that the front and back image of each check fits within the box shown on screen
  • Be sure the MICR line is fully visible
  • Make sure there is space between the MICR line and the edge of the image

What will happen if I make a mistake while capturing the check image? Can I cancel the transaction?

Yes, prior to finalizing the deposit you will have an opportunity to retake the image of the front and back or cancel the deposit. To cancel the deposit select “Back” or “Clear Form”.

Can loan payments be made using Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android?

No, deposits can only be made into eligible savings and checking accounts. However, once a deposit is made into your savings or checking account, you can transfer the funds to your loan or credit card account.

What is the cut-off time for depositing checks through Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android?

There is no cut-off time for depositing checks through Anywhere Deposit. However, if you deposit your check after 6:00 p.m. PST, the check will be processed the following business day.

Does Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android have any daily deposit limits?

Yes. For the first six months of using the service, you will have a $5,000 daily limit and $20,000 rolling 30-day limit. After six months, if the account is in good standing you will have a $10,000 daily limit and a $40,000 rolling 30-day limit. After one year if the account is in good standing there will be no limits.

What types of holds will Patelco place on my deposit?

Patelco’s standard check hold policy applies to deposits made using Anywhere Deposit. See your Member Handbook (PDF) for check hold guidelines.

What do I do with the scanned check after depositing it?

After depositing a check using Anywhere Deposit, attach a note to the check that you have deposited it via Anywhere Deposit Mobile and file it away. We recommend that you retain the check for 90 days for your records and dispose of it after that time.

What if, after logging into the Mobile Banking app, I’m not approved to access Anywhere Deposit for iPhone and Android?

Call 800.358.8228 or send us an email and a team member will review your account to see if you’re eligible to use the service and advise you of the decision.

I have an iPhone and the app crashes or goes back to the home screen when I try to take a picture of a check.

This is caused by a change in iOS 8 which requires each application to be enabled to use the devices camera. This can be changed by following the steps in this guide: How to enable the camera in iOS 8
