Patelco's approach to Community Outreach combines both financial and volunteer
support. We encourage our employees to get involved in their local communities
and to support programs that make a positive difference.
Community Outreach can be defined by several categories, each with its own
distinct characteristics, contribution guidelines, and volunteer participation
requirements. Some can be accomplished simply with volunteer participation,
while others can be accomplished by making monetary contributions or lending
intellectual resources. There are also credit union industry related projects
where Patelco either takes an active leadership position and/or is an avid
supporter of the initiative.
The following are the various categories that define Patelco's Community
Outreach program:
Outreach Categories- Charitable donations - cash contributions only
- In-kind donations - equipment, expertise, or time is donated
- Scholarships - cash awards distributed throughout the educational system
- Volunteer support - initiative supported by expertise and time
- Participation - participation with other organizations
- Financial literacy - programs geared toward improving basic financial knowledge
- Intern program - paid jobs for students
StandardsPatelco is committed to improving and sustaining its local communities and continues to take an active role in both the communities it serves and the credit union industry to which it belongs. Patelco's first purpose is to bring value to the financial lives of our members, neighbors, families, and communities. The credit union philosophy of "people helping people" is embedded in our history and is something we uphold by promoting the values of fiscal responsibility and self-reliance.
Because we are entrusted with safeguarding our members money, we are responsible to make prudent decisions regarding our corporate citizenship efforts. Requests for assistance must quantify the benefits the contributions will provide to the recipient(s) and the community in general; and must fall within one of the defined contribution categories above. Patelco annually sets aside funds to support its community outreach program and selects projects that will provide the greatest value to the largest majority.

The California Association of Older Americans is a group that has a Select Employer Group (SEG) relationship with Patelco. They have been in existence for over 30 years and are headquartered in San Francisco. They are an association that champions rights for senior citizens similar to AARP but on a much smaller scale. An individual does not have to live in California or be an older American to belong to the group; there is no requirement for membership. They are an associational SEG with us and, accordingly, any member of their group can join Patelco.
